I tried to cash my check at multiple places, and nobody could verify it. So i deposited it into my account. It was then considered FRAUD, and they are closing my bank account. I read about this happening to other people as well. They said it was because of the check number. I called EVERYONE including the IRS. Turbo tax has said they will call me back in 72 hours (they didn’t). The IRS was basically like “I don’t know what to tell you”. Turbo tax said it was a valid check, and they have no idea what’s going on. I don’t know what to do from here.

It seems some checks are not being cashed by certain financial institutions because they exceed the limits in place by that particular company. In some situations, these checks are being referred to as fraudulent; however, they are not. Make sure the name on your check matches the name on your bank account. Try to go to your local bank to open an account so you can deposit the check. Some banks will allow you to open an account but will retain a small portion of the deposit until the check clears. Another option is to find a bank that can cash large checks without any restrictions.
If the bank has concerns with the validity of the check, they can contact Intuit directly at 1-800-780-9247. A dedicated team is available for verification purposes. Also, if the check is uncashed after 90 days, the check will be returned to the IRS. The taxpayer can then work with the IRS to receive their tax return.
The amount of my check had nothing to do with why it couldn’t be cashed. The name on the check is mine, and I did open a new bank account solely to deposit my check. The fraud department with the bank had Turbo Tax on the phone, and they couldn’t verify my check either. I can’t take it anywhere else, because I tried to deposit it into my account so they kept it and put a hold on it. Then 2 days later said it’s fraud. I called Turbo tax after that and they said it’s not fraud, but they don’t know anything
@Shelbynarcisse We can pursue two options in your case.
1. TurboTax can issue a new check. It sounds like you are not in possession of the original check anymore. Once the new check is received, you can attempt to cash/deposit it. This is the quickest path to getting your refund, but involves some unknowns because the bank may not trust the checks anymore.
2. TurboTax can return the refund to the IRS. The IRS would issue a new check from the Treasury. This process can take up to 12 weeks. It's the longest lead time, but also carries less unknowns since the Treasury checks are more familiar to the banks than Intuit checks.
Please let me know what approach you would like to take, and we will take care of it from our side.
A lady from intuit that I had talked to last Wednesday called me yesterday to update me because I got a check from cross river that I couldn't cash as well. She said as of yesterday walmart has agreed to start cashing them up to 7500 dollars. I haven't tried there again because I opened a bank account and they have a hold on the funds until the 18th. Maybe you can try to call walmart and ask if they are now cashing them
Hey I have a similar issue. Paper checked was mailed 2/25 but not received but check was voided. Can you look into resolving my issue for me? I was also given a 72 hour window for a callback to have my check or a direct deposit to be reissued. I never got the first Intuit check in the mail but it was scanned into USPS informed delivery on 3/1. I was told by TT that my check was voided so even if i would've received it I wouldn’t have been able to cash it. Please help I get a different answer every time I call in.
Have you contacted Intuit at this number, 1-800-335-9612?
Thank you for your response. I have tried to be patient and wait 72 hours for a follow up call and still haven’t received it. I need to speak to someone immediately . Is this number just going to route back to the same reps?? I just want my refund
This number didn't help with anything. I just called and they have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m considering taking legal action.
