If you are using one of the 2023 TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions installed on a personal computer and you used the same computer for the 2022 TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions, completed and filed the 2022 tax return then the 2022 tax data file will be on the computer hard drive. The 2022 tax data file has a file extension of .tax2022. It will be stored by default in the TurboTax folder on the Documents directory.
If you are using the 2023 TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions installed on a personal computer and you used the 2022 TurboTax online editions to complete and file the 2022 tax return then you need to download the tax data file from the online edition you used.
To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Start the 2023 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.
On the Tax Home webpage -
Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download .tax file
