We made the following correction(s) to your return:
· We changed the amount of taxable Social Security benefits on your tax return because there was an error in the computation of
the taxable amount.
NOTE: Publication 915, Social Security and Equivalent Railroad Retirement Benefits, has more information on computing your
taxable Social Security Benefits. You can download Publication 915 at irs.gov/forms or call 800-TAX-FORM [phone number removed]) to
order it.

Where did they get the additional $10.000+
I work and receive SS retirement checks, but as I understand SS is not taxable. What should I do.

Since this is a public forum, we do not have access to your return as filed. However, if you feel the notice was sent in error or if you are confused about the changes, you should have an option to contact the IRS directly using the information they provided on the IRS notice. They will be able to explain exactly what the issue is.
From what you have typed above, it sounds like some of your Social Security benefits were taxable but on your return, some of it (or all), was not included in the tax computation. Typically, if your Modified Adjusted Gross Income exceeds $32,000 if you file jointly, or over $25,000 for any other filing status, then some of your Social Security income would be taxable. Please see this link for more details.
I would recommend reviewing line 6a/6b on your tax return as filed. If your income exceeds the threshold amounts, then some of your Social Security income should be listed on this line as being taxable on line 6b. Please see how do I get a PDF of my return to see a copy of your return as filed.
