my cousin mailed her taxes in but the IRS sent her a CP53E letter saying they could not direct deposit her returns because of wrong info or something, but there is no option for direct deposit unless you efile so why is this happening? I wanted to do direct deposit for my daughter too but theres no option unless you efile and she is mailing them in because she owes the feds
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
But there is no place to enter your banking information if you mail it in, only if you efile does it ask for banking info.
Then you would need to assume that the following from the IRS website would be in effect -
If you don’t respond to the notice, we will issue a paper check after 6 weeks. For updates on your refund status, visit Where’s My Refund.
Thank you!!!

Is your daughter needing to make a tax payment???? If she owes taxes, that is not a direct "deposit". If she has to pay taxes, that would be a direct debit, and you cannot do that on a paper return. If you want to pay taxes owed electronically, you can tell TurboTax that you are going to mail a check (just so you can proceed), but then instead of mailing the check, you can pay at the IRS Direct Pay website directly out of your (her) bank account.
https://www.irs.gov/payments/direct-pay-with-bank-account
If you're paper filing, and need to pay Federal taxes owed, you won't see a direct debit option, but you can do this instead:
In TurboTax, select Pay by check when asked how you want to pay your taxes.
Follow the instructions to print a paper copy of your return.
Throw out the 1040-V voucher that prints out. You won't need it.
Go to the IRS Direct Pay website and follow the instructions to submit your payment.
She wanted to mail hers in because she owes the feds but getting a refund on the state, but I was hoping she could just mail them in to get a direct deposit from the state so it would come faster so she could use that money to pays her federal taxes due.

Oh.. a state return was not even mentioned in the original question. So if your daughter doesn't need the above info about a method to pay taxes owed with a mailed Federal return, you can just ignore it.
Ok I was curious about DD on either feds or state if you mailed them in for my daughter. My cousins tax question was a different question although related. Thanks to all!!
