Is your daughter needing to make a tax payment????   If she owes taxes, that is not a direct "deposit".   If she has to pay taxes, that would be a direct debit, and you cannot do that on a paper return.    If you want to pay taxes owed electronically, you can tell TurboTax that you are going to mail a check (just so you can proceed), but then instead of mailing the check, you can pay at the IRS Direct Pay website directly out of your (her) bank account.

If you're paper filing, and need to pay Federal taxes owed, you won't see a direct debit option, but you can do this instead:

  • In TurboTax, select Pay by check when asked how you want to pay your taxes.

  • Follow the instructions to print a paper copy of your return.

    • Throw out the 1040-V voucher that prints out. You won't need it.

  • Go to the IRS Direct Pay website and follow the instructions to submit your payment.
