It’s been 48 hours and my taxes haven’t been approved or denied. Can the approval take longer than 48 hours?

Are you waiting for the approval or acceptance? It takes usually 24-48 hours for the return to be accepted from the time you transmit the return. It could take longer, it really depends on the backlog of the IRS. Approval usually happens within 21 days of the acceptance date. Approval means the refund was approved and you will be issued a direct deposit/mail date for your refund,
