IRS states they have not received my tax return, and Turbo Tax portal is showing the status as received

Hello, I logged into my account on IRS.gov, and it states that they have not received my 2020 tax return; however, I filed by May 15th, and in the Turbo Tax portal, it shows that the IRS received my return on May 21st and to expect my refund by June 11th. I was not necessarily expecting the things to wrap up on time, but I am concerned that the IRS is flagging my account as not having received a tax return for 2020. I do not want to accumulate any penalties of added fees for late filing, so I was wondering if this is something that is commonly popping up due to backlogs, or should I be concerned about an error somewhere in the process?

Thank you

Jennifer

If you received an email from TurboTax indicating that the IRS accepted your federal tax return, then the IRS has the return.  The IRS informed TurboTax that they received the tax return otherwise you would have not received the email.

On the IRS website for the status of a federal tax refund you Must enter the exact information that is on your federal return.  Your Social Security number, the Filing Status and the whole dollar amount of the Federal tax refund (not the combined federal and state refund or the federal refund less the state taxes owed)

If you have entered the information correctly for the federal tax refund and the IRS website does not have any information, then you have will have to wait for the IRS to update the website.  Check once a week or once a day, it will eventually update.

The IRS is seriously behind in processing 2020 tax returns.  This is due to many factors, such as the pandemic, completing processing of millions of 2019 tax returns, stimulus payments, unemployment compensation exclusion tax refunds., changes in the tax code by Congress in the middle of the 2020 tax season and the like.

Millions of taxpayers have not yet received there federal tax refunds.

Go to this IRS website for operational status - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

As of June 23, 2021, we had 17.5 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.
