Hi I filed an amendment back in March 2019. Of course I figured as Covid swept across the nation it was going to be delayed. I've waited patiently so I assume. I got a letter stating my adjustment was made on Jan 8th 2021 and that paper stated they "credited" my account (what does credited my account mean??) with the amount owed and that they would issue a refund within 2-4 weeks. Online at that point only stated it was adjusted. Jan 28th 2021 they finally completed the amended return. I waited the 4 weeks and called in and spoke to a representative and the lady said to give them 2-4 weeks to send the refund? By now I'm frustrated, I've researched I've called I have also went to the website countless times to figure out what's going on but now here it is March 8th 2021 and I still have yet to receive anything which is bazaar seeing I've gotten 2 stimulus checks and just filed my taxes for 2020 and should be getting those any day but yet my account is credited. Why have they not sent what's owed? When should I begin to think I need to talk to someone? And by someone meaning do I need to go into my nearest IRS office? Can someone please shed light on my situation I need this money bad as anyone would considering the circumstances. Had I owed the IRS they would have taken there money asap anyway they could but when that money's due to me or anyone it's an arm and a leg! Again any advise any thoughts as to what I should do I feel like a closed mouth don't get fed but everything I've done to redeem my money as ended at a road block.
Perhaps a tax advocate could help.

Have you got it yet? They sent mine to an old address like a week later the IRS got it back waited till July 12th said wait two weeks and here it is the 27th if it's not their today what do I do???
What IRS phone number did you call? Please be specific. I have called a number but it says due to high call volumes, I get hung up on. Thanks for responding. Enjoy weldon
Call [phone number removed] followed by #1 for english then it's gonna go thru a bunch of steps next but just pick these options and you should get someone....so after #1 for English it goes...#2, #1, #3, #2, #2, #4, #2 and lastly #3. I am on hold with a lady now and been at it for almost 2 hours now. Honestly only way I could figure out how to get a human on the phone was to call another tax service and ask them and the way they told me worked.
My amended return was completed on September 2nd and still nothing. They’re going to beat the resin being COVID to death. Like it’s been almost 3 years, they really need to pull it together.
Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return. During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six to nine months or more for many amended returns. Do not expect quick results from amending. When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check. They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns. You can watch for information here:

I never did find any help so I just resent in another 1040X form. I'll let them figure it out! Especially, since they will have 87,000 more IRS employees to do their jobs and perhaps get me my refund! Enjoy
have you received it yet? does it show up on your IRS tax transcript?
Nope! I checked my amended tax form status and its status has not changed and it is the same as it was several months ago. I got a letter requesting more documentation. I sent it back the next day (October 28th) but I haven't heard anything back nor has my status changed. My wife wants me to call but I'm done with trying to call them. Patience and prayer is all I have left to work with. Maybe something will happen before next Christmas (at the end of 2023)!
@mgv213 @Modog2020 - the IRS is still way backlogged on amendments, although they have whittled the backlog down from 2 million in June to 1.1 million now.
Suggest that any amendment is going to take a good six months to process from the time of submisison. Best to be patience and just check the where's my amendment tool no more often than once per week.

I received a letter from IRS about my amended tax refund being completed and how I'll get up to 3 weeks and it wasn't first class mail it was with the other regular mail.
@powerispersuasion "Regular"mail IS first class mail. The IRS does not use certified mail or any sort of mail with tracking to send your refund in the mail. It just comes in an envelope.

This has happened to me for my 2022 refund. The IRS told me it was deposited into some other account, not the one listed on my tax documents that it was supposed to have been sent to. I did not authorize this and there is no information about it anywhere.
