i have recieved a notice of taxes due in 2020. i filed my return in feb. and owed taxes and had scheduled payment thru my bank. then the $10200 unemployment credit was passed and i stopped payment to the irs on the date scheduled, because i knew there would be a good chance the unemployment credit might result in a refund instead of owing.i did my taxes on turbotax and the summary page for both the federal and the state of michigan show a tax owed but when i printed the 1040s for each, both said i was owed a refund. i know after the law was passed turbotax was instructing early filers not to amend their returns but i"m now receiving letters from the irs saying i owed the original amount calculated plus interest penalties. what is my best option, see if they come thru with a refund, or pay the original amount plus interest and hope they figure it out.
