The IRS has said that they want to e-file 1040X and "hope" to have that running sometime later this "summer" To do that, the IRS must first write e-file specifications (schemas) for the 1040X and then program and test the IRS e-file system to accept the electronic forms, then give those specification to tax software companies to write and program their software. Then the whole thing must be tested end-to-end before released to the public. That procedure usually takes several months to do, and is still is the design stage.

base on the news flash, this must be far along beyond the design stage.
Summer is upon us and end of summer is not far off.
