IRS did not receive my efile from turbo tax

My return was accepted on 2/13/21 or 2/14/21 (I have 2 dates in turbo tax) however the IRS has no record that my taxes were e-filed. When I log into the irs website, there is no "status bar".  I receive these 2 messages below. Its been 5 or 6 days since my return was accepted. When I download the turbotax efile tax file, there is no program available to open the file.

IRS did not receive my efile from turbo tax

I efiled using TurboTax on February 18, 2021 and IRS is still saying they have no information on my refund (definitely more than 21 days).  Can they just continue to ignore me???  This means I won't get a stimulus check until I file the 2021 return since my income dropped drastically last year.  And who knows when or if I will ever get my refund???  What happens if Turbotax tells me it was accepted at the IRS but the IRS never acknowledges receiving it?  State of Arizona paid off long ago so they did actually receive it.  Very frustrating.

@kep235

The "Where's My Refund" tool is no longer active for 2019 returns, so it won't show you information about that return.

You will need to call the IRS, and they will need to give you more information.  You can reach them at [phone number removed].  It is likely that your return is one of the millions of 2019 returns that the IRS has not finished processing and it is likely that they need additional information to complete the return.

Unfortunately, if your income is too high in 2020 to be eligible for the recovery rebate credit, and you weren't sent any of the first two rounds of Economic Impact Payments, you will not be able to recover those.  Since the income threshold is even lower for the third payment, I can't imagine how you will qualify for that one either - however, if you believe your 2019 income would qualify, file an extension for 2020 and wait to see if they will process that payment after they process your 2019 tax return.

It's the 2020 tax return that is the problem.  2019 is long gone and done.  Turbotax told me the IRS had accepted the 2020 return on February 19th but the IRS has no information on the return or my refund.  I'm in limbo waiting!!

Ah, I completely misunderstood (obviously).  I suspect that there will be a way to claim the third payment before waiting until next year.  I am not sure if they will add it to this year's return and folks can amend or if they will open up a portal, push another round of payments later or what, but I have to imagine that they will come up with some sort of plan.

I know a lot of folks filed when this was brewing hoping to be in the system before they started sending out payments and then they were out the door in a flash.  I can't imagine this administration leaving that in limbo, honestly, but I could be wrong.

I'd be satisfied just to get my refund (which includes the stimulus money I didn't receive because my 2019 income was slightly over the limit)

Since IRS hasn't even finished processing 2019 returns, I'm not holding my breath for them to figure out how to "not screw"  everyone who's income in 2020 dropped suddenly.  They seem content to just use 2019 returns same as before (which is pre-pandemic and massive job losses).  I'm probably better off than most since I didn't lose my job , i just retired March of 2020 right at the start of the pandemic).  And I've been sheltering at home for the last year since I'm high risk at 71).

TurboTax shows that my 2020 taxes (e-file) was accepted on May 10, 2021 - I got my emails from Intuit, and my TT software shows that it was e-filed. I finally got a login to irs.gov/onlineservices this week (since "Where's my Refund" showed nothing for me), and it shows NO Receipt of my 2020 taxes. I have tried to call their number for weeks ([phone number removed]), but I continue to get the "call volume is too large, call back another day" recording.

TurboTax doesn't allow me to resubmit taxes that were already e-filed. We are due over $5,000 refund.

What do you suggest? Do I need to print out the taxes and mail them in ????? HELP!

Your situation is not unusual at all.  Millions of people are in the same boat this year.  Long delays at the IRS are due to Pandemic-induced staff shortages, large backlog of unprocessed return, extra duties of providing the stimulus payments, last minute changes in tax laws, etc.   Delays are even longer with mailed returns or anything that requires any manual processing or additional investigation.  Of course, there are some things you should check:

If you efiled, double-check that your efiled return was indeed accepted.  If you used Online TurboTax, log in and go to the Tax Home and check the efile status, then use the tool below.

Here are some tips when using the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool:

https://www.irs.gov/Refunds

  • Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.
  • Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
  • Also be sure you are using the Federal amount before any TurboTax fees are taken out (if you chose that option.)
  • Look at your Originally filed  Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.
  • You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline.  I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't.  800-829-1954

Hi there,

How did this situation end up?  I am having the same issue with my 2020 taxes!!

This is normal. It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks to update and show the status. The 21 days is just an estimated time frame. The IRS began processing returns on 2/12, you may not find a record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated.

Since Turbo Tax will not have the status of your refund, continue checking the Where’s My Federal Refund tool for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight.
