A follow-up question: Is there a utility for TurboTax 2020 that repairs the ".tax2020" file so it can be re-opened by the TurboTax application successfully? I can open a separate .tax2020 file that I previously completed for my son's taxes, but mine is locked up and I believe/suspect there is a corruption issue with it as the TT application closed while I was trying to file my taxes.
Just FYI, for anyone having this similar issue. I spoke with a technical representative at Intuit at [phone number removed] and she tried to solve the issue by updating my Windows PC with all the latest updates/drivers, and manually installing the latest Turbotax software. Unfortunately, that did not help with the corrupt file issue. I am able to open a separate .tax2020 file that I filed for my son's first tax form filing. However, when I attempt to open my file, appears to me the file is corrupt in some way that Turbotax is unable to open. I did ask the support person for any utility that would be able to correct or repair the file but unfortunately no tool was made available. No further support provided. I will need to re-enter all my information, and will take me about 3-hours if all goes well :(
Please see the link below to see if that helps resolve your issue.
There is an option to Repair TurboTax if you are using the Windows version of the software as well as other suggestions.
Steps to repair TurboTax in Windows
The issue is not related to the TurboTax installation in my Windows 10 PC. The issue is specific to a data corruption issue of the file that TurboTax saves/opens with file extenstion .tax2020. Do you have a repair tool for the file?
Microsoft bricked my laptop by activating bitlocker and I have no code. I rebooted my computer in safe mode to try to get my tax returns. I can see them but when I try to open them in TurboTax, I get the error message. It’s probably related to being in safe mode. The file is likely not corrupt.
Here's an article from Microsoft on BitLocker that may help you.
There are several videos on YouTube on disabling BitLocker.
