If I entered wrong account number for payment, should I just send a check?

So when I filed my taxes I entered my account number wrong. The way my bank works is I have my main account number xxxxxx and for checking its xxxxxx-009 and savings is xxxxxx-000 and so on. I didn't realize that I should have included the 000 so it was taken out of the proper account. So, what is the best way to take care of the issue? I tried using irs.gov/account but I couldn't create the account in order to change it or just make the payment. If I send a check instead will they figure out not to try and also take that amount out of my account?

You can cancel the payment after your tax return has been accepted by the IRS.

See this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-taxes-by-electronic-funds-withdrawal

  • Once your return is accepted, information pertaining to your payment, such as account information, payment date, or amount, cannot be changed. If changes are needed, the only option is to cancel the payment and choose another payment method.
  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

After you have canceled you can send the payment with a check.

Thanks for the reply.
I called the number provided, but the representative I spoke with said I needed to enroll in... Something. I could barely make out what she was saying due to a heavy accent and other factors beyond my control.
I told her that I had used turbotax and she said that I would need to call them then? I'm really confused now...
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.
