Can i amend return adding a child dependant?

This is for 2017 return. His father and I usually take turns filing because he lives with us both part time. it was my year and I was unaware. need to add a child dependant.

If federal is already e-filed and pending, and you need to add information to or modify your return, you need to wait until it is either accepted, or rejected.

If rejected, you can update your return and re-file.
