You can amend your tax return with the steps below, but First check your copy of the tax return.

Did you put other Itemized deductions into your return.

  • Check line 12 of your Form 1040.
  • Is the value greater than:

The standard deduction amounts for 2024 are:

  • $29,200 – Married Filing Jointly or Qualifying Surviving Spouse (increase of $1,500)
  • $21,900 – Head of Household (increase of $1,100)
  • $14,600 – Single or Married Filing Separately (increase of $750)

Taxpayers who are 65 and Older or are Blind

For 2024, the additional standard deduction amounts for taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind are:

  • $1,950 for Single or Head of Household (increase of $100)
  • $1,550 for married taxpayers or Qualifying Surviving Spouse (increase of $50)

If you did take the standard deduction, and it is greater than your mortgage and property tax, you may need additional itemized deductions to make it worth your while.

How do I amend my federal tax return for a prior year?

If you've filled your taxes, you will have paid all TurboTax fees and you can print or view you 1040 and other tax documents.

Once you've provided payment you can follow these steps:

  • Sign into your TurboTax account.
  • Open your return.
  • Select Tax Tools from the left menu,
    • You may have to minimize both the Federal and State options by clicking the Down Arrows on the Sidebar.
    • You will then clearly see Tax Tools
    • Click the arrow to up to see additional options
  1. then Print Center
    1. (on mobile devices, tap in the upper left corner to expand the menu).
  2. Select Print, save, or preview this year's return,
  3. Follow any additional instructions.
  4. Once your PDF opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader, select the printer icon near the top.
  5. Make any adjustments in the Print window and then select Print at the bottom.

Can I print a copy in TurboTax Online before I file it?
