I'll assume you used Online TurboTax to file your Federal return. Did you efile your Federal return, and if so, has it been accepted? If you recently efiled the Federal return by itself, you can't efile the state return until the Federal return has first been accepted. Log into your Online TurboTax account where you prepared the Federal return. You should be able to tell at the Tax Home if the Federal return was accepted.
If accepted, then you need to open the interview back up to prepare the state tax return. To do that, while you are at the Tax Home scroll down a bit and look for a link "Add a State." That will open the return interview back up. Then go to the STATE taxes tab and begin the state interview. At the end of the state interview, go through the REVIEW. If all is in order, proceed to the FILE section, and go through the screens all the way to the end to click on a big orange button "Transmit Return Now."

NOTE: When you open your return back up, do not make changes in your Federal return since it's already been filed (assuming it was accepted). If you later have to amend the Federal return for any reason, it has to start off exactly as filed.

Thank you for your input. I see now I didn't explain enough. So I did my federal return thru Cashapp . Super easy and cost nothing and I would of done my state there too , but for some reason unknown to me , cashapp isn't allowed to do the state returns for Montanians ... my federal return has already been accepted and we've already received our refund. When I filled out the TurboTax stuff online yesterday I was just seeing in the beginning if it would come up with the same amount that cashapp did ...and it did ...becuz I couldn't figure out a way to get passed the federal inputting of info to get to the state forms ...I just assumed incorrectly that when it came time to proceed with the actual filings that they , TurboTax, computer system would see i had already filed and just void it or something , I dunno . But so now it won't like let me move on . I even tried to delete everything and it says I paid for it , which isn't true , I never entered any payment forms , nothing . Even chose to receive a paper check from the state . So ...yeah .
When you use TurboTax the information flows from the federal return to the state return. You cannot use TT to prepare a "stand alone" state return. Try going to your state's tax website to see if you can file there.
