We do not have access to your individual tax return in this public forum. Since the IRS has already processed your return, you would need to contact the them directly for more information regarding the details.
question # 1.
Did you try to carry back losses on your 2021 or 2020 tax return ?
I receive the same message. I have no clue what a carry back is and never filed such a form. Having trouble contacting the IRS to find out what is going on.
I finally figured this out. Apparently, in 2020 . .Intuit automatically applied to defer my self employment tax for the year. The IRS allowed this because of covid. I did not know that the program did that. Half of the deferred tax is supposed to be paid back by December 31 2021 and the other half by December 31 2022. When it was not paid back by end of 2021, they sent a notice requesting the amount plus interest. You should check your intuit tax return and see if it asked for a deferral of the self-employment tax for the year. Then see if the deferred amount is equal to 2 times the money the IRS is asking for (after subtracting the interest). Anyway, that was what I found out.
Thank you! This was helpful. I just got this notification today and had no idea what it was about.
Too bad Intuit didn't even offer this to track from one year to the next; I mean every bit of useless data is captured but somehow this important data is not obviously mentioned and so we have to get fined by the IRS? Awful.
something is wrong and we can't see your returns or notices. a carryback claim would normally result in a tax refund and not owing more to the IRS. But this could happen if you filed a c/b claim. the IRS processed the refund and then altered something that reduced or eliminated the refund amount.
you need to contact the IRS to find out exactly what is happening.
