i need to amend my 2021 return but the amend return drop down isnt there. how do i do this so i can e-file

You do not mention why you are trying to amend your 2021 return, but it is too late to get a bigger refund for 2021.   And...past year amended returns cannot be e-filed.

What did you efile once that was denied?  And when?   Your original return or an Amended return?   Was your original return Accepted or Rejected?   If it was rejected you do not amend.   You can only amend returns that were Accepted.   Depending on why it was rejected you may be able to print it out and mail it now.

The IRS no longer allows e-filing for 2021. If you need to file an amended return for 2021 you have to print the amended return, sign it, and file it by mail.
