I made a mistake while filing my taxes, I filed for the wrong state, I am a resident of Texas and I filed for Massachusetts. My efile has been accepted.

My 1040EZ appears to be correct for my income tax return. However, along with this is a MA Resident Income Tax Return. I am a Texas resident but go to school in MA. My personal info on turbo tax shows that I am a Texas resident as well as the license I provided while filing my taxes. What is the correct steps to take from here?

It does not seem like you necessarily made a mistake. If you sign in to the appropriate TurboTax Online account and do not see Accepted next your state tax return, you have not successfully e-filed it. If you need to file a MA nonresident state tax return, you may still do so. If not, you may just leave it in your TurboTax Online account.

TurboTax primarily determines which state tax returns you need to file based on what you enter on the My Info tab in TurboTax Online and related income sources, i.e. W-2, Form 1099-R, etc. You may enter MA in Other state income at the bottom of the screen mentioned above, if applicable (see attached screenshot)). Thus, you should review each of those areas in the program and pay extra attention that you entered the correct MA state taxes withheld on the W-2, etc., if applicable. Also, you should verify your income was properly allocated as you review the state screens, if applicable.

Several nonresident state tax returns begin with federal adjusted gross income so it may appear you are being taxed on all your income. However, after reviewing the entire nonresident state tax return, you should find that nonresidents generally only pay tax on income they earned from work performed in the state, and on income received from other sources within the state via some sort of state specific allocation methodology. You may try to determine if your tax amount appears reasonable by calculating an effective tax rate (total tax / adjusted gross income). Please review the following link(s) and the link(s) embedded on the webpage(s) for more information:
