Mr. Trump is not giving you $2000. Congress voted to increase the child tax credit to $2000 for your tax returns beginning with 2018 and beyond. You will file your 2018 tax return next year in 2019. For the 2017 tax return the child tax credit is still $1000.

My sister in law got 2000 for each child that's 3 children. It doesn't make sense

Not this year, we're doing 2017 taxes now...for 2018 taxes you file next year....maybe...depending on what your situation is.
