I got a notice from the IRS that I did not claim the recovery rebate credit for my kid that I had in Aug '21. But I have no idea how to amend, can I do over phone??

I have tried so many times to amend on turbotax but its all a different language to me. I did not claim because someone told me I did not qualify for the credit since she was born in Aug but then I got a notice that said I did qualify and I had a credit I needed to claim but I just can't seem to figure out how to even amend it. Is there a number I can call to amend over the phone or is it something I can go somewhere and a tax person help me amend the return? She is my first child so this is all new to me, any help is much appreciated!

No, you cannot call and amend over the phone.  You have to prepare and file a Form 1040X in order to amend your tax return.   You will need to go to My Info and change the way you answered some questions about your child.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2021 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

You will need to go to the child tax credit so that you get that credit for your child, and you will need to go to Federal Review in order to get the recovery rebate credit for your child.

If you prepared your 2021 return in TurboTax, you can amend your return. To find your previous years' returns, in TurboTax Online:

When you first open your return and see "let's keep working on your taxes", scroll down to the section "Your tax returns and documents". If you prepared your 2021 tax return in TurboTax, in the same account, you should see "2021" listed among the documents you can select to view. If you used a different TurboTax account for 2021, you would need to log in to that account to view your return. See this help article for more information.

If you want to open up your prior year return to amend it or access the input screens, follow the directions in this help article.

See this article for more information about the Recovery Rebate Credit.

The IRS has no provision to amend your return by phone.
