I finished my taxes on turbo tax, was so relieved I just hit send. No back up has been attached. Also, I found a form with some forgiven credit card debt of 1,300.
Do I have to file the dreaded Amended Return? I really need my refund- I lost my job and my Unemployment Account is wrapped up in Identity Fraud so I cannot access any funds there.
Should I wait to hear from the IRS? Should I contact them? Should you contact them? I’m so annoyed at myself. I was so burnt out when I finally finished, that I prematurely send them.
Please help ASAP.
Thank you,
Susan L B

You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You should be patient and wait until the IRS has completed the processing of your return. They may pick up on the $1,300 and you can make the adjustment with them directly.
If they don't notice, they will probably wait 2.5 years to notice (3 years is the statute of limitation) They will then send you the bill with penalties and interest attached. So you should bite the bullet and do an amended tax return.
You do not attach backup documents to your tax return unless you have one of the very rare situations for which the IRS specifically requires an attachment. If the IRS wants any backup, they will send you a letter asking for it.
TurboTax cannot contact the IRS on your behalf, but there is no need to contact them at this point.
