What if I already sent a correct one out already?
Well they might still send back the first one but receive the second one in the meantime. If this is the case, since the second has been sent out, that should end the issue.
We mailed our Federal return late Feb/Early March and forgot to sign our return. We are still waiting for the IRS to return it to us. Will we be penalized if by the time we get it sent back in, it is past the filing date?
This is a question for the IRS concerning if you would be charged interest or not.
To get to a live agent, please see the instructions below:
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
You can also contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1
By my experience, the IRS will send back your tax return within 4-6 weeks requesting that you sign it. Then resubmit it.
I sent a 941 with signature but no date. Will there be a problem?
No problem. A year ago I forgot to sign my return; it took a year, but then I got a letter with a form for me to fill out and sign and return to them within 30 days. No penalty.
How long do you think it will take?
What if they mail it back and it is after 17th
You could print out another return, sign it and mail it.
Since the first, unsigned one will be returned to you without processing, no harm, no foul.

I forgot to sign my tax return. I did send a payment check
@Durango1967 Do you have a specific question we could help with? If so, please respond to this thread for further assistance.
did you efile it? did the irs accept it?
@TMT123 - if you efiled, then the return was electronically signed.
if you paper file, you MUST sign the return with a pen, what is called 'wet signature'. The IRS is woefully backlogged and won't notice a missing signatgure for 6-9 months after it was mailed, but most likely it will be returned for the signature once they review it.
Obviously, IRS has already noticed, see their other duplicate post.
