To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
As stated in the original question, \when I go to Documents, it automatically redirects me to Tax Home to start a 2020 return.
>Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)<
I never see that screen, again, as stated in the original question.
@xterminal If you are seeing a TurboTax website that is requesting you start a 2020 return, then something is way off on your web browser. Clear cache and cookies on the browser.
Sign onto the TurboTax online account you created for tax year 2018 - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
What you should see on the TurboTax website is an option to start a 2022 tax return and below that the Your tax returns & documents section. Click on that section and the tax years available for your User ID are displayed as noted in the attached screenshot. (This happens to be for accessing a 2021 return but the same would be shown for any tax year that is associated with the User ID)
Clicking on 2018 and choosing download tax return gives me the following:
"
Looks like you didn't file with us last year or you filed using a TurboTax product that doesn't include access to prior-year returns.
To download your prior-year TurboTax returns, just get started with your 2020 tax return in the TurboTax product that's right for you."
The statement that I did not file with Intuit last year is accurate (as I have been on disability since 2020, I haven't filed a tax return at all since 2019).
Will attempt calling support tomorrow.
