How to fix Error 190

Subject: Error 190 (some formsets are not present) I hastily filed a 2024 business (LLC Partnership) tax return online. Hours later, I realized I made a mistake on the return that I would like to correct. A $649 TurboTax Live Assistant confirmed that my only option would be to amend the return. However, the assistant told me that business amendments cannot be prepared using the TurboTax $4.4 billion platform. My only option would be to buy & download TurboTax desktop. I hesitantly purchased & downloaded ‘TurboTax Desktop Advantage Home And Business, Tax Year 2024, Windows ($120). I downloaded from TurboTax online the 2024 business tax return (‘TurboTaxReturn.tax2024.’) to be amended using TurboTax desktop. $130.00. However, when I attempt to open the TurboTax online file in TurboTax desktop, I encounter Error 190: ‘Some formsets are not present on this machine. Please install all formsets.’ I have not found a solution and would appreciate a recommendation from an expert. Thanks.

How to fix Error 190

Instead of downloading a return you should be able - once you have installed the desktop software - to click 'continue from TurboTax online' and then the return itself along with all of it's forms would be downloaded into the already open software.

But the error indicates that you haven't installed the state forms into your desktop program.  So you should

  • close the return that you are trying to open,
  • go to 'start a new return',
  • go to state taxes,
  • download the states that you need,
  • close TurboTax,
  • reopen TurboTax,
  • then open the file you are trying to open.

That should solve the problem.
