How to correct a mistake after submitting federal return

I found a huge typographical error in one of my stock entries which added 2 digits to an amount.  I have corrected it but apparently cannot resubmit it because of some computer program that has not yet been updated.  What do I do now??

If your return has not been e-filed, continue to check back for the updates to file your return.  There have been necessary changes due to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

If your return has already been filed and accepted by the IRS, then you may need to amend your tax return.  This form will be available any day (Form 1040X). Also, if you need to amend, you should put the figures back the way your original return was filed then follow the instructions below.
