Hello,
I missed a large deduction in the schedule C of my original 2023 return. So I need to amend it. I have home and business desktop, so I'm supposed to be able to do it.
However, when I clicked the amend button in other tax situations, I found that the 1040-X form was generated incorrectly. When I clicked the button and without doing anything, I should have zero refund/due, because I have not changed anything yet. However, I saw a refund immediately. Then, I inspected the 1040X form, and found that the amounts in 1040-X, column A (original amount) were quite different from the ones I entered before. But the column C matched what I entered. This seemed wrong to me. How did this happen?
I'm thinking of manually modifying the column A amount to match column C (and the original return). Would that solve the issue?
In addition, I could not find any way to amend the schedule C in the amend page. It seemed that the amend page did not have any business items, everything was personal items. Since I wanted to change the business amount, how to do that?
Thanks.

Since you're using TurboTax Home & Business, make sure you're working under the Business tab to revise your Schedule C information. Do not override any numbers on Form 1040X or you won't be able to file the amended return.
Be sure you are starting with the return that was actually filed (no changes whatsoever) before you agree to amending your return. Also, review the instructions here: How do I amend my federal tax return for a prior year?
Thanks for the info.
I did start from the turbotax file that was actually filed. It confused me a lot because without any modification (just entered the amendment section), in the 1040-X, the column A generated by turbotax is NOT the same as the one entered in the original return. The column B has some adjustments, and the column C is the amount reported in the original filing. For example, I think, the value in line 1 and column A of 1040-X should match the line 11 in 1040. But they do not.
Once I made some modifications to the tax, the values in column C are changed, but the values in column A are not changed.
It is really strange that I cannot find the values in Column A anywhere in the tax return. How can that happen?
It depends. As you know the key is to have Column A exactly as your original return so if for some reason they have changed then you should modify them to match. Once this is accomplished the other columns should be correct.
Double check your original refund or balance due (lines 18 and 16) and your amended return should be ready to file.
