My daughter submitted her own tax return while she was a full time college student and qualified as my dependent (income under the limit). My return was just rejected because she must have forgotten to check the box indicating someone else can list her as my dependent. In order to get the $500 credit, I need to mail my tax returns and then have her amend her federal return (she had no income in my state). However there is no "box" to check on the form 1040-X. Should I just have her write in "I was my father's dependent for tax year xyz" in the box at the bottom, or is there a different form used to add this?

MY DEPENDENT SAID HE COULD NOT BE CLAIMED
Your dependent filed a return without saying he could be claimed on your return and your return was rejected? AFTER his return has been fully processed and he has received his refund, he has to file an amended return that says he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return. Amended returns must be prepared on a Form 1040X. It takes the IRS at least four to six months to process an amended return.
Meanwhile, since your e-filed return has been rejected, you now have to print and mail it in to the IRS. You will not be able to e-file. You do not have to wait for your dependent’s amended return to be processed. Remember that when you mail a return, you need to include copies of your W-2, etc. with your return. Use a mailing service like certified mail that will track it so you will know that the IRS received it.
For your dependent:
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
When they amend —The dependent needs to go to MY INFO, click their name, and go to the question that asked if they can be claimed as someone else’s dependent. The answer needs to be YES.
It's not clear whether your daughter is using TurboTax.
When she amends her tax return, she must recalculate the return based on being able to be claimed as a dependent. If she is using TurboTax, she does this by following the instructions that xmasbaby0 gave above.
In addition, in Part II on page 2 of Form 1040-X there is a box to enter an "Explanation of Changes." She should write in there that she is changing her return to say that someone can claim her as a dependent. If she is using TurboTax, when she amends her return she will come to a screen that asks for a description of why she needed to amend her return. What she enters on that screen will go in the Explanation of Changes in Part II of the 1040-X.
