How long will it take to receive refund after faxing 1095a form and 8962

It depends.

The IRS is still processing stimulus payments.

The payment of the stimulus funds can be tracked at the following website:

Please see the following for facts related to the payments as processed by the IRS.

How long will it take to receive refund after faxing 1095a form and 8962

i faxed mine out on march 20th and i still have not received a date as to when i will receive my refund. it has been 3 months and it still says its processing. I'm getting frustrated because turbo tax had no problem taking the money out of my account when i still haven't received it yet and it was a mistake on their end. I had chosen the option to pay with my refund. hopefully i will get answers soon.

The online link is your best option to track your refund.  I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.

Federal refund questions

There is a delay in processing the returns as the IRS is not processing anything paper at the moment due to Covid-19 and social distancing policies in effect.

The department that processes the form 8962 and 1095-A has been closed since March.  They’ve just been allowed to go back to work.  So basically, no one has been working on our returns for three months.  I wasn’t notified of this or anything.  I happened to call the IRS yesterday and finally got through to someone.  They told me about the department being closed.  Would’ve been nice to either be informed or for the IRS to release our refunds instead of screwing us.  Especially those of us that lost our jobs due to the pandemic.

It is going to take a long time.  They have not even resumed normal operation yet.  You can call the IRS, but it is not worth the time and hassle that it will take.  If you are  lucky enough to speak with someone, they will likely tell you the same exact thing that you are told here which to basically wait longer.  Other than complaining to your Congressperson, there are not lot a lot of options available for those of us waiting on them to resume normal operations.

Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit is required when someone on your tax return had health insurance through Healthcare.gov (or a state marketplace) and took the Advance Premium Tax Credit to lower their monthly premium. We'll help you create (or correct) the form in TurboTax.

You should have received a paper form in the mail from your marketplace. If you didn't receive a Form 1095-A, sign in to your Healthcare.gov account to download a copy.  Once you've got it, follow the instructions below for your version of TurboTax.

When you're done in TurboTax, you'll need to print out Form 8962 and mail or fax it to the IRS, along with any other items requested in their letter (IRS Letter 12C).

If there's a change to your refund amount or the amount you owe, you'll need to print and send page 2 of your 1040.

Remember:

  • Respond promptly.
    • If you disagree with the IRS, respond with an explanation—and with the item(s) they're requesting.
  • You don't need to complete or send a Form 1040X (amended tax return) to the IRS.
    • Send page 2 of your 1040 only if the refund or owed amount has changed.

TurboTax Online Instructions

First make sure you have a clean copy of your original tax return for your records. If you haven't already saved one, go to Tax Home to print or save a PDF copy.

  1. Sign into your account with the same user ID you used when you filed your 2020 return.
  2. Scroll down to the Your tax returns documents section and select Add a state.
  3. In the left menu, select Federal.
  4. Select Deductions & Credits from the top menu.
  5. You may need to answer a few preliminary questions to reach the Your tax breaks section. Once you get there, select See all tax breaks.
  6. Select Show more next to Medical.
  7. Select Revisit or Start next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A).
  8. Answer the questions about your health insurance, which includes entering your 1095-A.
  9. Select Tax Tools (found in the left menu), and then select Print Center below it.
  10. Choose Print, save, or preview this year’s return. You may need to enter info about your driver's license or other state ID.
  11. In the TurboTax Print Center, check the  Federal returns box and select the Just my tax returns(s) option. Select View or print forms.
  12. We'll generate a PDF copy of your tax return. Save or print a copy for your records and label it so you know it's the latest version of your taxes. Print a copy of Form 8962 for the IRS. If your refund or balance due has changed, print Form 1040 too.
    • You can check if your refund changed by comparing line 21a on your original 1040 and the one you just printed. If you had a balance due, check line 23.
  13. Send the following to the IRS address or fax number found in your IRS letter:
    • Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit
    • Copy of your Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement
    • A copy of the IRS letter that you received.
    • Only if the refund or owed amount has changed: also include page 2 of your 1040

You have to enter a Form 1095-A before the Form 8962 can be generated and completed by the TurboTax program.

According to this IRS update as of May 7th:

The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of April 30, 2021, we had 1 million individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of April 30, 2021, we had 17.1 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We are processing returns received over the summer and fall in 2020 due to the extended July 15, 2020 tax filing due date. While the majority of 2019 refund returns have been processed, in some cases, we are processing tax returns that were mailed with a payment even though payment associated with these returns have been processed by the IRS. However, we are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
