How do you input Total Payments & Withholdings for LY refund if filing jointly

My husband and I are filing jointly for the first time, getting stuck on the last year refund section.

If my husband received a refund last year, but I did not, do I combine our "Total Payments & Withholding"? 

 

For ex, 

Husband's Total Refund: $100

My Total Refund: had to pay $50

Husband's Total Payments & Withholding: $5000 

My Total Payments & Withholding: $6000

 

Do I input the below?

Our Total Refund: $100

Our Total Payments & Withholding: $11000

How do you input Total Payments & Withholdings for LY refund if filing jointly

No, do not combine.

Only worry about the refund and 2023 tax year withholding for your husband.

 

If your husband took the Standard Deduction on his 2023 Federal return, the refund is not taxable and needn't be entered. 

 

If your husband Itemized Deductions on his 2023 tax year federal return, and claimed State Tax Paid as a deduction, the refund (or a portion) may be taxable. 

 

The state tax deducted is listed on his 2023 tax year Schedule A line 5d.
