First thing---it is important to determine if "he" can be claimed as a dependent. We cannot tell who made a mistake--you or "him". If he can be claimed as a dependent, then his own tax return should have said someone else can claim him, and he might have to amend his return after it has been fully processed.
If he cannot be claimed as a dependent, then he should go ahead and file his own tax return by mail, since his return will be rejected if he e-files.
If he cannot be claimed, then you can remove a dependent by going to MY INFO to do that when YOU amend your tax return.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -
