2021 & 2022 my husband and I filed separately but erroneously didn't match our standard/itemized deduction claim. How do I amend the returns to correct this?

The instructions below will explain how to amend your returns. Make sure to use any allowable itemized deductions because every dollar will matter in your situation. There has been little change in allowable itemized deductions.
Prepare or amend your 2021 and 2022 tax returns. TurboTax will assist but be sure to read the instructions first so the original numbers and the new numbers will be applied correctly.
If you already filed your returns and you need to amend or change them you can use the links below to get started:
You can amend a return to change from married filing separate to married filing joint but not from married filing joint to married filing separate unless you do so prior to the original filing deadline without extensions. This may work out better for you both.
Thank you Diane. Do I need to amend our California returns as well?
Yes, if you amend your separate Federal returns to correct the allocation of itemized deductions, then you should also amend your California returns, assuming they would also be affected.
If you amend your federal return, the changes will automatically be transferred to your state tax return. See this help article for more information.
