How can I verify that IRS received our tax return? We did it through turbo tax but we still need to pay in this year?

Did you efile?  Was it Accepted?

Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?

You can check your efile status here

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

When you efile you get back 2 emails.  The first email only confirms the transmission.  The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc.  What does it say?

Thank you for your answer. I used the linked you gave me and it just takes me to the front webpage, I login and it just shows the prompt if I want to do the 2020 tax return. But I can't get or can't see if the 2019 taxes were accepted or not. I do have the vouchers for the payments we need to make, does that mean that the IRS did get it since they are giving us the option to make monthly payments? It's only $1,200 dollars so they split it over 4 months. But I can't find where it was actually accepted or denied. Thanks

Whoa!  What are we talking about?  About your 2019 return or 2020?  Did you get the 4 1040ES slips?  Those are not to pay your tax due.  Those are to make estimated payments for the NEXT year so you don't owe so much again.  The 1040ES are optional to pay and the IRS will not be expecting them.

You still need to pay any tax due.  To pay the Tax Due you either put in your bank info for the IRS to take it out or there is a 1040 V voucher to mail in with a check or you can pay the IRS directly online.

Sorry about that, this is the first time out of 25 years that we have to pay into the state so we were very confused on what happen. We have (4) kids altogether (2) are grown and out and the other two kids in college and so they used their funding as "income" so it put us over. So the taxes I am talking about are our 2019 taxes that we were suppose to pay in 2020 but then the pandemic happen and my hours were cut so were just trying to catch up. So the vouchers have nothing to do with this year..is that what you mean? We just have to pay the full $1200 in one shot..right? And we give them the bank info so they can just take it out..right? With that being said does that mean that our 2019 taxes were accepted? And we didn't get the last stimulus, so I am taking it that we won't get this third one either?

I can't tell you about 2019.  Did you efile or mail it?  When you log into your account what does it say for 2019?  Like Accepted, Rejected, Printed or Ready to Mail, etc.?  If you didn't pay the Tax Due and the IRS didn't send you a bill to pay it then they might not have gotten your 2019 return.  But they might still be behind in processing 2019 returns.

What year do the 1040ES slips have on them?  Up in the corner?  2020 or 2021?  It's too late to use them to make payments for 2020.  If you have a 2020 tax due now you need to pay the whole amount.

For the Stimulus.  What did you get?  Did you get the first round?  How much?  If you didn't get the right amount or didn't get the second round you claim it on your 2020 tax return.  Have you filed 2020 yet?  Check 1040 line 30 for any missing Stimulus (just for the first 2 rounds, not this 3rd one).

For our 2019 taxes we efile through turbo tax and I paid for the services so they can send it in for me. The vouchers say 2020 Form 1040 ES Payment Voucher. That is the problem I keep going into my account and all they are showing me is Tax Home..Documents..File an extension..Intuit Account and Sign off. When I click on the Tax Home just gives me the front page with if I want to start to upload my 2020 documents..Intuit Account just has a bunch of boxes..Security..personal info..privacy etc nothing for me to click and see if my return was accepted. And I don't remember getting anything from IRS in regards to a bill just yet that is why we thought we were going to use the vouchers. We got the first stimulus that went out, I think it was $600 for each (myself and husband.) Our kids did not qualify since they are both in college. Nothing for the second one though, haven't filed our 2020 because of owing money on the 2019 and wasn't sure what was going to happen this year.

OK throw those 1040ES slips away.  You can't use them for anything.  Shred them.   Sounds like you didn't file the 2019 return.  Call in and ask for help on that.

Then for the Stimulus.   You have to check your bank accounts, etc. and see exactly how much you already got.  The first Stimulus was 1,200 each so married got 2,400.  The second Stimulus was only 600 each or 1,200 for married.  When you fill out your 2020 return it will ask how much you got.  There will be 2 boxes.  You have to enter the right amount you got in each box.  Then if you missed one or qualify for more it will be added to 1040 line 30.

So I have to call turbo tax because they didn't file my taxes???? even though I paid for them to send them? And I do apologize, I checked and we did get the first one for 2,400 but never got the second one for $600 so just curious on why we would get the first one..not the second one and yet my taxes are not showing filed like you mentioned. So based on all of this we are looking at nothing for the 3rd round..right?
