To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
See this TurboTax support FAQ for accessing prior year online tax returns - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
For a fee of $50 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
This does not show the amended return I created.
The final 2018 returns were archived ... if you do not see the 1040x then ...
1) you are in the wrong online account
2) you used the downloaded version only available on the computer you used
3) you did not amend the return correctly ... download the 2018 amendment program now to open the 2018 return and see what you have
I'm actually wanting 2019, but this was the only question in the system. Would that be different? I already saved, printed, and sent it in to the IRS, but they closed/rejected it at the 16 week mark without comment.
As to the 3 points:
1) I only have the 1 account. It has my original 2019, which I e-filed. I did the amended from there, because of course it amended based on the data that was already there.
2) I don't have the download version.
3) It only gave one option. It used all the numbers from my original 2019, and it amended based on a corrected 1099-DIV I received. But now I can only find my original, or the same button to amend again.
Sign onto your TurboTax online account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
If the PDF is not complete or it is not available, then follow this procedure -
Scroll down and click on Add a State. This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.
Thanks, the second process worked (the first gets only the original return pdf).
Will the new, amended numbers eventually be added to my official return? For example, I'm occasionally asked for "last year's AGI"...will that be my new, amended AGI? There's a button for that now (using the first process above), but it also gives the old value (I did this amendment 4 months ago).
By the way, my amendment was rejected "without comment", said by the IRS customer service person I spoke with. She says that's unusual, but when it does happen, she can't find out why. I'm suspicious that it was because they normally have a 16 week deadline to take action, and they closed it on the last day. She said maybe, but that the deadline was lifted because of COVID. In any case, she suggested I wait until August, when they are supposed to begin accepting e-filed amendments. I can't find when or if TurboTax will be supporting that.
"I'm occasionally asked for "last year's AGI"...will that be my new, amended AGI?"
It depends on where the IRS is in migrating data to the e-file system.
I recommend keeping both your original AGI and your new one from the 1040X. Next year, use the 1040X first, and if that gets rejected, use the original AGI. One of the two should work. Sorry that we can't tell you in advance which one the IRS will be checking for.
