Why did you not ask the state what your next move is?   If they have the return on "ice" due to the incorrect SS# then filing a correct return (not amended) would be what I expect to be required.

Was the SS# not wrong on the federal return as well ?    This is why efiling is the best option when at all possible ... an error like this would have been flagged and rejected and you could have fixed it on the spot.

Well you have your answer ... follow the state instructions to get the return corrected and processed.

what don't you understand about mailing in a copy of your SSN card?  you can go to a FedEx, USPS, UPS, Office Depot, Staples, etc to make a copy. call first since not every place has a self-service copier. if need be call the state back so you know where to mail it and what to include.

Call the state again and get detailed instructions you can follow to correct this issue   or better yet walk into a local state office for face to face help.
