If the transaction is being reported on stand alone Form 1099-B, the deadline for that being mailed to you was January 31. If it is reported as part of a consolidated 1099 form it is required to be postmarked by February 15, 2023, according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) unless the firm reporting the sale files for an extension. Firms that file for a Client Tax Form extension will have until March 15, 2023, to postmark the consolidated 1099 form. Even if it was required to be mailed by January 31st, it's still early, and you should wait before doing anything. Alternatively, you might be able to access your Form 1099 from the firm's website. You should not file without it, as you won't know for sure what was reported to the IRS, and what transaction type it was reported as.
Contact your broker for a sell confirmation. However, you should also receive a 1099- B from your broker, but they have until the end of Feb to issue it.
