Has anyone else receipt their refund for unemployment? I know the first $10,000 in taxes is supposed to be refunded, but I got nothing.

My apologizes about the grammar error in the first part of this post. Was supposed to be received lol. Anyways, a friend of mine got hers already, but I filed before her. So does that mean the people that filed in May are first and then everyone else who filed on time normally will be at a later date?

Some have but many have not ... the IRS department who has been  charged with processing these and other returns have MILLIONS to complete and they normally only see a few thousand returns all year so they are understandably behind and all you can do is wait patiently while they plow thru the piles.

  • Refunds started going out the week of May 10, according to the IRS, and will run through the summer as the agency evaluates tax returns. More complicated returns could take longer to process.
  • The IRS is doing the recalculations in two phases, starting with single filers who are eligible for the up to $10,200 tax break. It will then adjust returns for those married-filing-jointly taxpayers who are eligible for the up to $20,400 tax break.

You will not get a refund of "$10,000 in taxes." You will get a refund of the tax on up to $10,200 of unemployment income. If you are in the 10% tax bracket, and you received unemployment benefits of $10,200 or more in 2020, your refund will be 10% of $10,200, which is $1,020.

As Critter-3 and Bsch4477 have indicated, when you get the refund is not based on when you filed your tax return.
