Got a letter from the IRS asking for a copy of 2020 taxes. I was in the military during this time so the fee was waived. Now in order to get a copy its going to cost $70

There is no charge to download a PDF of a prior year tax return that was completed using the TurboTax online editions.  You only need to start a 2022 return with no need to either complete or pay for the 2022 online edition.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2022 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Doesn't the IRS have the same transcript and/or tax return (for $43) that you are refering to ??

Always print a copy of your completed tax return for your records, and review it carefully before e-Filing.
You will need it if you are audited by the IRS, or to amend if a TurboTax update changes your return or for any other reason,

So you are suggesting this person pay $43 dollars to the IRS for a printout to mail back to the IRS.

@fanfare Nope...only stated that as option.  Would not be the first time the IRS requested a copy of tax return that has has been filed, accepted and already included in the IRS archives.
