I just got an IRS check for $1200.
Looks legit with Watermark. No other info or letter, just the check saying "TAX REFUND 30" and seems to be about my 2022 filling from last month. I did get the expected refund via direct deposit so I thought it was all allset.
I am pretty careful about lining my deductions and I don't have that many anymore. No dependant ,married filling Jointly.
Call IRS to check but they want me to wait a few weeks to ask for info because my filling is too new.
I am just baffled as to why I get this extra money. It is our name on the check, our address.
Anyone has any idea what 1200 could be matching too?

That amount of $1,200 is the same amount as the first stimulus payment in early 2020 for eligible adults. Did you receive EIP1 in 2020?
I thought about this at first but I did get the 1200 via CC card in 2020.I also got the second one that was much less. Besides, the date on the check is 12/2022 and I got it a few weeks after filling 2022. So I am pretty sure it pertains to 2022 tax year.
It is crazy to get a check an IRS check without a single explanation.
