Hi!
When I filled out my 2024 W2 on TurboTax, I mistakenly left box 18 blank even though I correctly filled in boxes 19 and 20. Is this something I need to file an amended return over? I don't see how it would change anything given that I correctly input how much tax I paid to my city and my school district; I just didn't write the income values used to calculate that tax (I'm not sure why TurboTax didn't flag that before I submitted it).
Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

You may need to amend your tax return.
Is your box 18 amount the same as the amount in box 1 or box 16? If so, your locality may use that number when calculating/comparing the amount of local taxes you paid to what you should have paid (if the calculation is the same, then they may not care).
Are you normally required to file a local tax return? Some municipalities may charge a fee for failure to file a Local Earned Income Tax Return.
Hi! Thank you for responding and apologies for my late response.
I have two localities in box 20 - one for the city I worked in (I don't live there) and one for the school district I live in. Box 18 matches box 16 for the school district, but not for the city.
When I filed my taxes, I got a form called Ohio SD 100 which is for my school district, and on there it looks like they knew how much I owed them, and it matched exactly what I had withheld in box 19, so I ended up not owing them anything additional. I would think that means they won't care that I left box 18 blank, right? I'm guessing they just used box 16 to calculate it.
For the city I worked in, however, box 18 does not match box 16. I do not have to file a local tax return with them, however.
(I do file a local tax return with the town I live in, but I did not have withholdings for them and I file those completely separate from TurboTax.)
Thanks again for your help!
