If you have an amount in Box 18, Local Wages, on your W-2, you may need to file a Local Tax Return.  Go by the paper copy of your W-2 if you imported/uploaded your W-2.

TurboTax can only prepare Local Tax Returns for certain cities.  Click this link for more info on Local Tax Returns.

You said "on the W-2 form . . . it shows up as money," and you also said "on the W-2 it's like a code and not money." Please clarify. Where exactly is there a dollar amount in box 19, and where is there a code in box 19?

If there is no local tax where you work, employers sometimes put something in box 19 that doesn't really belong there.

  • What exactly is in box 19 on the W-2 form from your employer?
  • Is there anything in box 18 or box 20?
  • What state did you work in?
