Question

Filing individually?

Hello,
We live in France, and I have not filed for 20 years. If I start now, I believe I can not file individually : I must mention wife, kids etc.

I seems too complex for me : my wife does not have a tax number. I do not want to declare her income, etc.

I also have a handicapped son who is 24 years old. If I declare him, will I have to now every year file for him as well? I am afraid of opening up too much paperwork.

My second son is 16, so he will soon also have to file?

I highly suggest you call a tax pro to discuss your situation especially if you were required to file and did not this could be a big can of worms.

You  might want to renounce your US citizenship if you can be  permanent resident or citizen of France.

If your kids are US citizens, they have to file.

There is an exclusion on taxable income based on your income in France up to a fairly large amount.
