We e-filed our 1065 using TurboTax Business a couple of weeks ago and just realized that we need to add some interest income. In other words, we needed to make a small correction to our filing. We have research this quite a bit and learned about the 1065X and went through the process in Turbo Tax and produced a 1065X, but we came across an article today regarding Superseded Returns. Apparently, these are done when the filing deadline has not passed. The deadline for the 1065 is March 15. So, we would like to submit a superseded return using TurboTax, but it doesn't seem possible. Can someone shed some light on this subject? If we end up filing a superseded return via mail, I understand that we need to write the words, "SUPERSEDED RETURN" across the top, but not sure what forms we need to print out and mail in. Thank you, Peter

At this time, TurboTax does not support e-filing a superceded return for a partnership. We can recommend filing an extension of time to file, which will give you extra time to investigate this option and file before the extended deadline. You may wish to consult a local tax professional to assist you in this process.
I need to change my 1065 and K-1's (already filed) & it is still before the March-15 deadline. I filed the original via paper hard-copy. My research suggests that it is preferable to file a "superseded Return" (rather than an amended return), but I cannot find explicit instructions on how to do so. From what I have been able to discern, it sounds like I can print out the revised return and Write/Type "Superseded Return" on P-1 of the 1065 and also on Each K-1. I believe I probably do not check the "Amended K-1" box.
Can anyone confirm that this procedure is correct?
Yes, you are correct. You can prepare a superseded return in TurboTax Business. Do not check the "amended" box. However, the return will need to be printed and filed by mail. As you stated, you will need to write "Superseded" at the top of all forms before you mail them.
PatriciaV:
Thank you for the response. I want to make sure I do this correctly, so which of the following is a best practice:
1. Write "Superseded Return" on P-1 of Form-1065 and each P-1 of each K-1
2. Write "Superseded Return" on P-1 of each Form & Schedule: (1065, K-1, B-1, Sch K - Sec199A, 199A Act Wks, etc.)
3. Write "Superseded Return" on every page of everything.
Option 1 is correct. Every page you send to the IRS must have "Superseded Return" written at the top of the page.
Adding that notation to worksheets (options 2/3) is optional but might prove useful for your records.
