FICA, W2C and 1040X

Hi,

My employer in error failed withhold Social Security tax and Medicare tax from past 3 years. Upon realizing the error they have sent me the corrected W-2c for 3 years . W2C has only box 3,4,5,6 information (Social Security tax and Medicare tax information) and others are blank. I am trying to amend my tax return through TurboTax for these 3 years and on 1040X I am not getting anything, I mean I am getting 0 value.

So I have to amend these Social Security tax and Medicare tax 3 years taxes by using 1040X? if yes then how?

Thanks

You probably do NOT have to amend your income tax returns if TurboTax is showing a $0 value. Form W-2c will only show the corrected boxes.

The only time Social Security on a W-2 will change a return is when you work for two employers and have an excess contribution. In that case, you would get a tax credit. With one employer, you don’t have to do anything if TurboTax is showing $0.

Your Social Security will automatically be credited with the Social Security Administration based on your employer’s payments and will help you get benefits when you retire.
