Federal return filed electronically has been accepted, but MD State return is still pending. Why? What is current wait time for MD acceptance?

Returns both filed electronically on 2-16-2021. Recvd confirmation via both text and e-mail that Federal Return record. On Log-in, Intuit/Turbotas shows Maryland State return still pending.

Federal and State tax returns are processed separately. Once you transmit your tax return, it is sent to the IRS for processing. The IRS began to process those e-filed returns on February 12th. Your return will stay in a Pending status until the IRS starts processing the backlog of returns. Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer.
