Federal Return E-File Accepted and Taxes Paid - Trying to Amend and I should have paid less but Turbotax trying to have me pay again

I filed my 2021 federal return and owed taxes.   The return was accepted and paid.   Now I am trying to Amend and e-file taxes, and it shows I owe less now, but it is not counting the initial payment.    For example, let's say I paid about $10,000 direct debited from my account in federal taxes and on the amended return it shows I owe $8,000 so I should get a $2,000 refund, but the efile process is trying to direct debit me the $8,000 on top of the $10,000 I already paid.

How does this work?   How do I get the refund rather than paying twice?

The $10,000 you paid goes on 1040-X Line 16.

If you see it there then you really do owe $8,000 more to IRS.
