Federal refund shows state deduction coming out but I opted to pay myself not with my federal.

Why does my federal refund amount show that my state refund is being taken out but I opted out of that option and my paperwork that I printed out shows that I opted out of it? I’ve called multiple times and no one can answer so pretty much the irs is releasing the full amount to you but your taking my state taxes I have to pay this year out and an additional 120? I called the department of revenue and was told if my papaerwork don’t state that my state taxes are being paid with my federal refund it will not be, which my paper work states where I need to mail my payment too. Sooo with that being said you all are trying to steal some money from me! You taking out the state taxes I owe and then still going to charge me 120 and since my paperwork says I have to mail in my payment( because I opted for that option) I still have to pay the state? Sooooo in being sight you all are taking a good 1000$ from me with no explanation!!! I need some answers immediately your customer service is no help they don’t listen or call back like they say they are!!!

You misunderstood.

Your state tax due cannot be paid from your federal refund.

It is not possible to pay your state tax due from your federal refund, nor is it possible to pay a federal tax due from a state refund.  The federal and state treasuries are completely separate from each other.  You may have seen a TurboTax summary of your federal and state amounts that confused you into thinking one was “paying” the other.  It is not. The ONLY thing you can pay for from a federal refund is your TurboTax fees if you chose that option.

If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

No I did not. Your phone representative’s told me on yesterday that’s why my amount appears to be different because I’m paying it from my federal. When I told them I did not opt for that option she gave me the number to dept of revenue and told me I have to call them it’s nothing you all can do. Dept of revenue told me it’s on you guys end because you all receive the amount first then disperse it to me after. So my total 2020 tax refund on your site is showing my state being deducted. The second rep I spoke to yesterday said the same thing but when I explained I never opted for that she told me she will look into it and cal me back I have yet to receive a call back and it has been officially 24hrs since. So explanation on why my federal return is showing a different amount on your site than what the irs has?
