I am doing taxes for my parents. I filed their federal return back in March, it was accepted, and everything was fine. However, they received new information, and I had to amend their original return. I e-filed the amended return and received a message from Turbo Tax that the amended return was rejected. Later I received a message saying that it had something to do with the fact that the primary tax payer's number showed the individual was deceased.
My father died on December 29th, so when I filed the original return, I marked that he was deceased. I didn't change anything on the amended return other than one number. The message from Turbo Tax said the software would walk me through how to correct the return so I could refile it. However, when I click on the review again message, nothing happens at all; no window opens and it doesn't return me to a review. When I manually click on the review tab near the top of the window it says everything is 100% correct on the federal and state amendment. I have no idea what I need to correct to refile the amended return and the Turbo Tax Deluxe software isn't helping at all.
Any help that someone could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Christy

The rejection came from the IRS, so this means the database for the IRS was likely updated between when you originally filed and now. Although they have your other form, the fact that you are amending a return for a deceased person may be causing a glitch in their system with accepting it.
You will need to print and mail the amended return. If you select print and mail, you will have the instructions and address as to where to mail the 1040X.
