Earned income credit

I filed my taxes but now got a mail from the irs saying I could be eligible for $$ from earned income credit.  I am not claimed by my parents but do live w them and am a full time student and part time employee.   What do I do?  I can’t figure out if I am eligible.  Help. I’m only days away!

Earned income credit

Since you are not a dependent, and the IRS sent you a letter saying you qualify, then you might. They might not have all the information.

For 2021, the following changes have been made to the EIC. • EIC rules for taxpayers without a qualifying child. Special rules apply if you are claiming the EIC without a qualifying child.

In these cases, the minimum age has been lowered to age 19 except for specified students who must be at least age 24 at the end of the year. However, the applicable minimum age is lowered further for former foster youth and qualified homeless youth to age 18. Additionally, you no longer need to be under age 65 to claim the EIC without a qualifying child

Specified student.

You qualify as a specified student if you were enrolled in a program that leads to a degree, certificate, or other recognized educational credential and carried at least one-half the normal workload for your course of study during at least 5 calendar months of the year or an academic period if longer.

Earned income credit

So a bit confused by the student part.  I am full time going for my bachelors and we 20 when 2021 ended.  So does that mean I don’t qualify based on the Specified student scenario!  Thank you for all this good info that seems to be the only part I’m not sure on.

Earned income credit

You are correct, you are a specified student so you do not qualify for the earned income credit.  @MiCol
