Do I need to file an extension even though my taxes were technically already filed? The issue is beinf fixed but may take a while.

The social security office has the wrong day listed for my birthday. Although I went down to the SS office in person with my original birth certificate, original social security card, unexpired driver's license and 2 proofs of residency, they said they needed my full size birth certificate with the filing date on it in order to fix it (never heard of this paper nor did I ever have it in my possession). This required the office to reach out to the state I was born in which is less than 20 miles away to get a copy of this full size certificate. I was told 4 weeks at most and yet nothing.

So have you filed by printing and mailing your return?  You don't need to wait for that to get fixed.
